They Haven't Had A Sanctioned Match In Three Years. They Got A Chance To Tear Into Each Other Again After The Infamous Challenge "Don't Be Scared Homie!" Now They're Set To Go At It Again ... With The Strikeforce Welterweight Title On The Line!
In a very unique promotion designed to hype Strikeforce's major event which airs live on Showtime from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on October 9th, the network will use footage from the now-defunct EliteXC promotion to sell viewers on one of the most eagerly-anticipated rematches in MMA history.
The first time Diaz and Noons collided, they fought at EliteXC: Renegade in November, 2007. That controversial contest was for the EliteXC Lightweight Title. Noons scored a shocking 1st round TKO over Diaz, but then chaos ensued a few months later with one of the more legendary melees in Showtime history when Diaz interrupted Noons' post-fight interview with Bill Goldberg, challenged Noons to a rematch and said "Don't be scared, homie!" Of course, within a minute, a huge brawl broke out between the two fighters, and yes this was after the official contest was over.
That infamous first fight will air as part of an hour-long special on Showtime 2 this Friday night, September 24th at 10pm Eastern/Pacific Time. The Showtime special will also include other past fights with both Diaz and Noons, and will re-air on Tuesday night, September 28th at 10:10 pm Eastern/Pacific Time on Showtime 2 and on October 4th at 10pm Eastern/Pacific Time as well.
Noons went right after Diaz on Strikeforce's website, saying "I already got one up on Nick. I beat the crap out of the guy. He's had a good run, and there's a lot of buildup for this rematch ... I'm a true mixed martial artist, I have respect for the sport, and I am a good role model ... Nick's good for entertainment, but I come from a family of fighters ... On October 9th, I'm fighting a guy that if I had a kid, I wouldn't want him looking up to. He's a trash-talking pot-smoking chump."
Strikeforce World Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz defends his championship in his long-awaited rematch against KJ Noons in a fight scheduled for 5 rounds on October 9th live on Showtime, with Sarah Kaufman defending her STRIKEFORCE Women's Welterweight World Title against No. 1 contender Marloes Coenen.
